Snooze no more!

I did my first morning run since marathon training this morning. Woo!

I attempted to get up twice in the past few weeks before work and run, and both times it happened to be raining, dark, and cold outside. And since my bed in January is accessorized with warm, flannel sheets, my bed usually wins me over.

My goal this week is to work out 6 days, and with my first Guacabowle game tonight, there was no excuse for me to hit the snooze button and go to the gym after work instead (What is Guacabowle, you ask? It’s my intra-mural bowling team run by NYC Social Sports Club! And yes, last year we won an award for best name, thanks for asking).

With my lingering IT Band injury, I decided to take it easy by doing a run-walk (5 minutes running, 1 minute walking). I felt super fast – and with hardly anyone out, the streets of Greenpoint belonged to me. I wish I could bottle up the energy I get from a morning run and take a sip of it to get me out of bed on rainy days.

To boost my somewhat pitiful running schedule, I've been all about checking out new classes lately. Between scoring on Groupon deals and my membership at NYSC, I'm using the classes to try and get stronger so that I'll be in tip-top shape for spring running (also, it turns out you do a lot more crunches with someone yelling at you). My adventurous work-out pal, Erin and I checked out an awesome Bootcamp class last night –it was really hard! Run by Circuit of Change, their Bootcamp class starts with a quick warm-up, followed by 50 minutes of plyometrics. We went from squats to boxing moves to jumping jacks to abs to kicking the air to planks to mountain climbers…  and repeated that a few times. Needless to say, we’re going back next week.

  1. Good for you getting up and running again. Gotta love and HATE those flannel sheets. Great on Saturday and Sunday, painful Monday - Friday!
